Why an elastic loop instead of a neck hole
A die-cut neck hole only works when the neck is a known, steady size. Elastic does not care much about the exact size, because it stretches to fit.
That makes elastic loop neckers the practical pick for containers with no real neck. Jars, squat bottles, pump tops and flip caps all have this problem. Even a bottle with a neck can be awkward if the cap flares out.
If your bottles do share one neck size, a flat die cut necker with a neck hole may be faster to apply. Many brands use both across their range.
Containers that need a stretch loop
We see elastic loops used most on containers where the widest part is the lid. A rigid hole would never pass over it.
They also suit brands with several bottle sizes. One loop length can cover a range of necks, so you order one necker design for many products.
- Honey, jam and nut butter jars with wide lids
- Pump bottles for hand soap, lotion and body wash
- Flip-top bottles for sauces and dressings
- Squat bottles for bath salts and scrubs
- Candle jars with a wooden or metal lid
- Gift bottles in unusual shapes, such as teardrops or flasks
Choosing loop length and fit
The loop should stretch a little to go on and then grip. Too loose and the tag spins or slides, too tight and it strains the hole or bunches the lid.
Measure the circumference where the loop will sit, using a strip of paper or a soft tape. Then measure the widest point it must pass over on the way down.
Send both numbers with a photo. We set the loop size from them and show it on your proof.
If your containers vary a lot in size, we may suggest two loop lengths. That keeps the fit snug on the small ones and easy on the large ones.
- Decide where the loop will rest: under the lid rim, on the neck or around the shoulder.
- Wrap a paper strip around that point and mark the overlap.
- Measure the strip flat to get the circumference.
- Measure around the widest part of the lid or pump head.
- Send both measurements and a photo of the container.
Elastic loop compared with string and ribbon
String and ribbon need tying, and a knot takes time on every bottle. Elastic slips on in a second and comes off just as easily.
For a hand-tied, gift-shop look, compare our string tied bottle neckers. They take longer to apply but suit premium gift bottles.
| Point | Elastic loop | Tied string or ribbon |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Stretch and slip on | Wrap and tie a knot or bow |
| Fit on odd shapes | Adapts to the container | Adjustable but needs care |
| Removal | Slides off easily | Untie or cut |
| Look | Clean and modern | Handmade and giftable |
| Speed on a busy line | Fast | Slower per bottle |
Designing the tag that hangs from the loop
With an elastic loop, the tag usually hangs to one side of the container. It swings and turns, so both faces are seen.
Put your logo on the front and product details on the back. A scent name, a flavor, ingredients or a short use note fits well.
Because the tag can turn sideways, avoid long lines of text across the full width. Short stacked lines stay readable at an angle.
Our bottle necker artwork guide covers safe zones, type size and hole placement for neck tags.
Where to punch the hole for the loop
The hole sits near the top edge of the tag, centered or in a corner. A centered hole lets the tag hang straight, while a corner hole tilts it at an angle.
Elastic pulls on the hole each time the loop is stretched. A metal grommet stops the hole from wearing, which helps if customers take the tag off and put it back.
Keep text and logo well below the hole. The elastic and grommet will cover anything placed close to it.
Stocks for tags that get handled
Elastic loop neckers get pulled and stretched during application. A 16 pt or 18 pt card holds up well without feeling heavy on a small jar.
For bath products used in damp rooms, laminated stock resists moisture better than bare card. Kraft board suits pantry goods like honey and preserves.
Heavier 24 pt and 32 pt double-layered board suits gift jars, where the tag should feel substantial. On small sample jars, lighter card keeps the tag in proportion.
Compare stocks and coatings in our paper and finish options for tags. Each one is available with an elastic loop.
One necker design across a mixed product range
Small brands often sell a jar, a pump bottle and a tin under one name. Ordering a different necker for each shape gets costly and confusing.
An elastic loop solves this. The same tag, on the same loop, can go on several containers that are close in size.
You can still tell products apart. Print one front design and change only the back, with the product name, scent or flavor on each version. Your proof shows every version side by side.
For an even simpler label on the lid itself, printed hang tag stickers can sit under the loop.
- One front design keeps the shelf looking unified
- Back-side versions name each product
- One loop size can suit similar containers
- Fewer designs to track when you reorder
Getting loops pre-attached
Threading elastic through hundreds of small holes is slow work. We can pre-attach the loops, so each tag arrives ready to stretch onto a container.
Pre-attached tags are packed in bundles to keep loops from tangling. Open one bundle at a time at your packing table.
If you prefer to attach loops yourself, we can ship tags and loops separately. Tell us which you want when you ask for a quote.
Stretch each loop only as far as the container needs. A loop pulled far past its size can lose some grip.
Ordering elastic loop neckers
Send your logo, tag size, stock choice and container measurements. Our designers prepare a free digital proof showing the tag, the hole and the loop size.
Request changes as many times as you need, then approve. Production takes 4 to 6 business days, and transit takes 2 to 3 business days.
Elastic loop neckers start from $0.30 per unit. Your exact price depends on size, stock, quantity and finish, and it is confirmed when you ask for an elastic necker quote.
